James Pryor, CFEI, Principal Electrical Consultant

James PryorMr. Pryor has over 25 years experience in conducting forensic fire scene examinations of appliances, wiring and equipment. He is well versed and experienced in fires that occur in commercial, industrial and residential settings and also specializes in marine and recreational vehicles. Mr. Pryor has been a Principal Consultant for LGI for over 10 years. He brings a wealth of experience to his inspections, and has also served as an expert witness in a variety of courts. He has conducted over 4500 scene and laboratory examinations of scene artifacts and works closely with cause and origin investigators throughout all aspects of forensic investigations. He has consulted with and worked along side fire investigators, lawyers and insurance adjusters regarding electrical faults/failures/shocks in appliances, residential and commercial wiring.

Mr. Pryor holds a BS in Electrical Engineering & Technology from Old Dominion University. He has lectured on electrical fire causation for the New York City Bureau of Fire Investigation, insurance adjusters, electrical utility personnel, and the International Association of Arson Investigators (IAAI). He has also served as a Volunteer Fire Fighter for over 25 years.

James J. Bernitt, P.E., CFEI, Principal Engineer

James Bernitt

James J. Bernitt, P.E., holds a Master of Engineering Degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), and a Bachelor of Engineering degree from The Cooper Union. Mr. Bernitt is a Professional Engineer (P.E) licensed in the States of New York and Connecticut.

He has testified as an expert in a variety of courts.

Mr. Bernitt has over 30 years experience in design development and failure analysis of electrical and electronics systems. He has hands on experience in the design and development of electrical, electronics and embedded software products as well as forensic engineering activities. Mr. Bernitt also has experience with investigations of electrical fires, hazardous electrical conditions, and a variety of equipment malfunctions. He is certified to use the Excel Tribometer for slip and fall cases (CXLT). He holds a patent and has published articles for conferences and symposiums.

 

Gerry Donaghy, P.E., Senior Engineer

Gerry Donaghy

Gerry Donaghy, P.E., has a Master of Business Administration from Dowling College and a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering from Manhattan College. Mr. Donaghy is a Professional Engineer (P.E.) licensed in New York State.

Mr. Donaghy has vast experience ranging from communication equipment electrical designs to operation and maintenance of electrical distribution systems. Mr. Donaghy was a Supervising Distribution Engineer for the Long Island Power Authority (LILCO), and also served in the United States Army as an Electronic Engineering Technician. He is extremely knowledgeable about numerous codes and safety standards. He has prepared electrical designs for office, educational, health care, and research facilities as well as electrical systems for telecommunications equipment and systems.

Mr. Donaghy has served as an expert witness providing technical analysis of incidents involving electrical equipment and product failures, fires of electrical origin, and electrical shock injuries.

 

Andrew Pietropaolo, E.E., CFEI, Senior Consultant

Andrew Pietropaolo, E.E., CFEI, has an Associates Degree in Electrical Technology from Westchester Community College. Mr. Pietropaolo holds a Journeyman Electrician License in the State of Connecticut.

He possesses extensive knowledge of codes and standards used in the construction industry.

Mr. Pietropaolo has over 25 years experience in servicing and installing commercial electro/mechanical equipment across a number of industries. He has investigated and reported on countless failures of a vast array of electro/mechanical and electronic equipment to determine cause, nature, effect, and required remedial actions. He is also universally certified by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in the handling of all types of refrigerant and associated refrigeration equipment. Mr. Pietropaolo served in the United States Navy as a Petty Officer Fire Control Technician. He is a Certified Fire and Explosion Investigator (CFEI), a master carpenter and woodworker and is a licensed E-1 Unlimited Electrical Contractor.

 

Gina Bumshteyn, P.E., CFEI, Engineer

Gina BumshteynGina Bumshteyn, P.E., has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Polytechnic University. Ms. Bumshteyn is a Professional Engineer (P.E.) licensed in the States of New York and New Jersey.

Her forensic experience includes the field investigations and analysis of fires, failures, and accidents involving all types of electrical systems and equipment. She provides technical findings and conclusions in written formats. She examines electrical damages and failed components to determine root cause of the failure including electrocutions, lightning damage, and electrically related fires.
